Husky Gets Rejected Because of “Ugly” Legs, But One Woman Gave Him A Chance
Due to deformities in his front legs, Derby the Husky faced difficulties in walking and running from birth. Although rescued by a shelter, his impaired mobility posed a challenge in finding him a permanent home. Furthermore, he would injure himself in attempts to move like the other dogs in the shelter.
Finding suitable prosthetics for Derby proved to be a challenge due to the unique twist in his legs, and even using a wheelchair didn’t yield positive results. The shelter workers had almost given up hope for him until Tara Anderson from “3D Systems” stepped in and changed his life.
Derby’s condition deeply moved Tara, and she decided to help him become self-sufficient. She took charge of fostering him and assembled a team at 3D Systems to explore different possibilities for creating prosthetic legs that would be a perfect fit for Derby. After conducting various design trials on the computer, the team finally found a model that would work for him.
Derby’s experience with 3D prosthetics left a strong impression on me. The technology enabled him to walk and run once again, with the prosthetics being tailor-made to his height and size. Initially, Derby was fitted with prosthetics that had a lower height, which was gradually increased until he reached his ideal height.
It’s heartening to know that after receiving his “3D legs,” Derby found a loving home with a compassionate couple. Thanks to technology and the kindness of some amazing humans, this adorable pooch is living his best life now.
