The Five Best Dog-Friendly Breweries in the U.S.

Dog Friendly Breweries

More businesses than ever are appreciating the fact that people are passionate about their pets and want to include them in their life just like other members of the family. Once, dogs were banned from places that served food and drink. However, businesses in dog walking areas, such as near parks and open fields, were suffering as not making canine guests welcome was deterring their human companions from offering those businesses their custom. Now, more cafes, restaurants, and bars than ever are welcoming dogs to increase their business. Even breweries have caught on to this strategy and many are now dog-friendly. If you are thinking of traveling with your dog and you want to visit some breweries along the way, here are five of the best dog-friendly breweries in the United States.

4. Independence Brewing Co. – Austin, Texas

Independence Brewing Company is located in Austin Texas and it was founded in 2004. Bizarrely, one of the main reasons why the co-founders, Rob and Amy Cartwright, opened this brewery is because they wanted a dog. Their jobs meant that they were in offices all day, and they didn’t think it was fair to get a dog and leave it at home all day. Instead, they decided that the best option was to start their own business. Once the work had started on constructing their brewery business, they went along to a local rescue group to find themselves a dog. It was then that they came across Jasper and welcomed him into their family. The experience of adopting a rescue dog gave them a greater awareness of the needs of the animal shelters in Austin. Once their brewery was up and running, they used their business as a venue for fundraisers to raise money for the shelters. They called their events Beers & Best Friends. As the brewery was inspired by dog ownership and the company has raised so much money to help dogs, it is little wonder that it has become one of the best dog-friendly breweries in the United States.

3. Lucky Labrador Brewing Company – Portland, Oregon

When Gary Heist co-founded this brewery more than 20 years ago, the name Lucky Labrador appealed to him as he had grown up with this dog breed. He felt that Labradors were the perfect symbol for what his brewery wanted to achieve, as they are a friendly dog and he wanted to create a brewery that was welcoming to everyone. This brewery actually has four locations in Portland, and they are all dog-friendly. The beers they brew all have dog-themed names, such as Dog Day IPA, Belgian Canine Style Tripel, and Blue Dog Pale Ale. The brewery is so keen on their dog-themes that they even hold an event inspired by Oktoberfest called Dogtoberfest. Initially, this was little more than a free dog wash for visitors who brought their dog along to the brewery. However, it has since evolved into a fantastic fundraising event that raises money for the DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital. The Lucky Labrador Brewing Company has now been a dog-friendly brewery for more than 20 years and plans to continue welcoming dogs for many years to come.
