Old Dogs Home is a sizable rural residence sprawling over 11 acres in Conyers, Georgia, which is home to Melissa, a 35-year-old individual. Melissa established a rescue organization called Old Dog Home with a mission to fulfill her dream of rescuing old dogs that require tender loving care. She could not have foreseen the extent of growth that the organization would undergo.

In Melissa’s words on Facebook, “For the canines that we receive and can be restored to health and eventually adopted, we will exhaust all available resources to provide them with an opportunity to experience love and a family during their twilight years. For those whose age or health impediments make rehoming impossible, we will become their surrogate family. They will reside here until the end of their lives, and when they pass away, they will depart to their eternal resting place.”

Melissa recently received an upsetting call from Old Dog Home’s veterinary associate, informing her that a customer had brought in his aged dog to be euthanized due to his lack of desire to care for her any longer.

Despite the fact that Old Dog Home was already at full capacity, Melissa felt compelled to take in the dog, whom she has named Holly. Holly is a charming and affectionate canine estimated to be between 10 and 12 years old. Following her original owner’s demise, she was moved from one residence to another before finally finding a home with her current family.

The previous owners of Holly cited having two other dogs as the reason for no longer wanting her. Additionally, they claimed that Holly frequently urinated on the floor and that their grandchildren did not show any interest in her.

Melissa conveyed her encounter with the former owners on social media, remarking that although she did not want to blame the children, the granddaughter appeared disinterested in Holly, stating, “We just don’t really like her. We like our other dogs better.” Despite this, Holly remained enthusiastic and cheerful throughout the interaction.

Melissa views her purpose in life as demonstrating that being “old” does not equate to being “dead,” emphasizing that aged dogs are still capable of experiencing and providing love. She believes that these animals are resilient, forgiving, and deserving of an opportunity to be part of a Forever Family, just like any other dog.

Melissa plans to ensure that Holly has fully recuperated both physically and emotionally before seeking out a caring and nurturing family where she will receive abundant love and care throughout her remaining years.

Upon successfully placing Holly in a suitable home, Melissa intends to provide a home for another abandoned old dog, continuing her mission of rescuing elderly canines that are otherwise unwanted. “That’s the dream, folks. That’s the dream!” Melissa exclaimed, emphasizing her passion for providing a second chance to aged dogs in need of love and care.
