Bobi, the legendary canine who witnessed the inception of the first Air Bud movie, emerged onto the scene long before the beloved Courage the Cowardly Dog ever graced television screens, and predated the catchy tune “Who Let the Dogs Out,” is now reveling in another remarkable year of existence!
Residing in the picturesque Portuguese village of Conqueiros, Bobi holds the distinguished titles of the World’s Oldest Living Dog and the World’s Oldest Dog Ever, officially recognized by Guinness World Records. Recently, the charming canine commemorates his 31st birthday with joy and merriment.

Bobi, hailing from his family’s idyllic farm, entered the world on May 11, 1992, and later achieved his esteemed accolades in February. It was during this time that Spike, then 23, was recognized by Guinness World Records as the World’s Oldest Living Dog, just before the astonishing revelation of Bobi’s even more advanced age came to light.
Recently, Bobi’s owner, Leonel Costa, eagerly informed Guinness that the distinguished pooch would be commemorating his 31st birthday with a quintessentially Portuguese extravaganza. A grand celebration awaits, with over 100 attendees expected to partake in the festivities and revel in the joyful occasion.

Bobi, with his unique appetite exclusively craving human food, was treated to an assortment of local meats and fish to be shared with esteemed guests, some of whom are traveling from far-flung corners of the globe to partake in the revelries.
The remarkable transformation in Bobi’s life since acquiring his prestigious titles has garnered significant attention. Leonel Costa, the proud owner at the age of 38, expressed how individuals from various continents, including Europe, the United States, and even Japan, have flocked to meet and capture memories with Bobi.
Despite the concerns surrounding the potential stress of newfound fame, Bobi’s health remains robust, as affirmed by his owner to Guinness. Costa shared the challenges Bobi encountered while gracefully accommodating numerous photo sessions, gracefully rising and resting multiple times. It was undoubtedly no easy feat for the illustrious canine, but he persevered with unwavering spirit.

At this juncture, Bobi has risen to stardom, captivating hearts with his resilience. As a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, a breed typically expected to live 12-14 years, Bobi has defied the odds and continued his adventures alongside Costa since the tender age of eight.
“Bobi has displayed unwavering determination throughout these years; only he comprehends the secret to his endurance. It cannot have been easy, considering the relatively short lifespan of an average dog. If Bobi could speak, he alone could unveil the mystery behind his remarkable journey,” shared Costa with Guinness several months ago. “We are profoundly joyous and grateful that life has granted us the privilege of sharing our daily lives with Bobi after three decades.”
Costa further expressed immense elation that Bobi has earned the distinguished title of Guinness World Records holder. It is a moment of immense significance and pride.
Bobi now surpasses Bluey as the record-holder for the Oldest Dog Ever. Bluey, an Australian cattle dog, lived until the remarkable age of 29 years and 5 months, passing away in November 1939.
Although Bobi experienced a health scare in 2018, he emerged from that challenging period in sound health. Presently, Bobi contends with age-related issues such as diminished eyesight and mobility. However, he has navigated these challenges with remarkable resilience, and life hasn’t been excessively rough for him.
