In a remarkable tale of survival, a pet dog named Bear managed to free himself from a harrowing situation and reunite with his owner after being trapped in a hole for 60 hours.
Bear, a lucky pooch, had found himself stuck in a hole in Seaton Park, Aberdeen, Scotland. His owner, Dasha Samatoina, who was visiting from London, experienced immense relief when Bear emerged from his ordeal unscathed.
It all began when Samatoina lost sight of Bear during a walk with her friend’s dog, Lola, in the park. Worried and distraught, she tirelessly searched for the Cavapoo with the help of local residents and firefighters. As hours turned into days, Samatoina’s hope of finding her beloved pet began to dwindle.
However, fate took a positive turn on Sunday when Lola led Samatoina to an area in the park where she could hear Bear’s familiar barks. Realizing that her dog was trapped, Samatoina called out Bear’s name until he eventually managed to dig himself out of the hole he had fallen into.
“[Lola] led us to one of the holes on a site we had not properly looked at, and she was very persistent to go down the hole,” Samatoina recounted to BBC.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Samatoina described her state at the time, saying, “I just started screaming at it. I was hysterical and crying. The thought of him being down there in the cold and dark terrified me.”

Although there was concern that Bear might dig himself deeper into trouble, he proved his resilience by finding a way out.
“I could feel he was digging under the ground – I was just hoping he was going the right way,” shared Samatoina.
Despite suffering from minor scratches on his nose and dehydration, the five-year-old canine is now doing well. A visit to the vet confirmed Bear’s good health, leaving both Samatoina and the veterinary staff amazed.
“It is amazing how strong he is to be able to dig himself out after three days with no food or water,” expressed Samatoina. “The vets were shocked that he was fine.”
Bear’s triumphant survival story serves as a testament to his determination and resilience, bringing immense joy and relief to his owner.
